Superb English Sheraton Caned Bergère

No. R14682

A superb English Sheraton caned bergère armchair, having an urn and foliate carved crest rail over the caned back and seat.

The carved crest, front legs and arm supports puts this chair into a higher category.  The reeded baluster arm supports are as bold as I’ve every seen resting on a double reel turning then on a reeded drum.

The seat blocks have an applied rosette on the front and sides which rests on another reeded drum then to a tapered stop-fluted leg on casters. The cushion is loose and the arm pads are permanent.

The caning is all old.

The cushion has a shaped piece of Masonite under the cushion to distribute weight so the caneing won't break.

This chair is quite deep and will be comfortable for someone over six feet.  Traditionally a shaped squab cushion is used in back for someone shorter.
